Baroque Farm is a small breeding operation nestled in the southern delta of Louisiana near the capitol city of Baton Rouge. The farm was originally founded with Iberian horses but has now changed its focus to raising rare, critically endangered English Dales ponies. Our farm takes its name from a time in history when the popular style of horse was a one with an elegant yet useful frame. A horse of noble stature and carriage, of round body width and a square form, one of high neck carriage, and a noble yet sub convexed or flat head. This horse was originally of Spanish ancestry but if the founder of many European and American breeds today. It was used in the conquest of Europe by the Romans, and the Americas by the Spanish conquistadors. The Dales pony is a baroque breed that finds its ancestry in the native UK Galloway ponies, the Iberian horses of Spain, and the Friesian horses of Holland. The Dales pony makes its home in the northeastern section of England where it has been bred and protected by farmers who have done a fabulous job in keeping the ponies to type and work. The Dales pony has many uses because of its versatility, and it is known in the UK as the " great allrounder" because it excels at any disciple. The added benefit of a Dales pony is its kind and generous, making it always a pleasure to be around, and very solid minded when ridden. Our goal is to raise sound minded, sound bodied Dales ponies that will excel at any discipline while remaining definitively within the Dales pony standard and type. We wish to establish our own line of Dales ponies with great character and athleticism while helping to open up the gene pool here in the US. It is our intention to promote the Dales pony in the US to bring awareness to this great breed that is listed as critically endangered, and to hopefully help the Dales breed again flourish, this while keeping true to its traditional type and heritage. We are members of the Dales Pony Society of England, and we feel it is important to keep all of our stock registered in England with the Dales Pony Society to maintain their lineage in the main stud book, and to make sure we comply with the DPS standards. It is our hope that this will keep our ponies from separating from their native origin. Every Dales pony from our farm will be DPS registered making that pony eligible to be registered as an English Dales pony by any registry, anywhere in the world! |
